Consumer Evaluations

I've been making use of Shimano spinning reels for over 20 years.
I have (and frequently use) five Spirex reels, a single 4000, a single 2500, and three 2000's.
I get a bit 'riled up' when individuals claim the Rapid-Fire (QF) function loses fish for them. I just don't think it is so. And as soon as you get employed to it, employing a reel without it feels like you happen to be handicapped. Like you're fishing with one hand tied behind your back. Drives me crazy. I ended up 'gifting' a Nice reel away considering using it drove me crazy without having the QF.
For a person who does not fish a lot, or is a beginner, the QF is a awesome option considering it's less complicated to turn out to be proficient at casting a spinning rig with QF. The line release is merely much easier to get the hang of.
Before I go on, let me just say that this assessment doesn't deal with the general top quality of the Shimano Spirex. You can see that in all the other critiques. I agree it is five stars on excellent for the cost.
This critique deals pretty substantially only with the QF function, due to the number of people who moan about it for (IMHO) wrong reasons.
The older QF reels had a predicament with the trigger. Following a couple thousand casts, the trigger would put on out a tiny and would not lift the bail correctly. I haven't had that challenge in any of the reels I've bought in the final 5 years. I have properly more than 2K casts on all of my Spirex reels now except the 1 I bought final year, which is close I am certain.
That leaves the "large difficulty": the lack of 'instant' or 'infinite' anti-reverse. Some consumers mis-state the problem: they say Spirex doesn't have anti-reverse, but it does have a toggle to switch in between getting anti-reverse, or allowing 'back reeling'. It does not have instant anti-reverse although, because you have to be in a position to move the trigger back to the top rated of the reel.
I honestly do not think that that this 'lack' has EVER lost me a fish. But the majority of my fishing is NOT cast-retrieve, it is jigging for walleyes. I maintain my line amongst my finger and the trigger when I'm not reeling. It adds sensitivity. This ALSO holds the bail in position where there is 'instant' anti-reverse! The bail Can't 'reverse' considering it is already all the way back! Also, when I AM casting spoons or plugs, if I cease reeling I have the habit of back-reeling to the stop, so once again, I do have instant anti-reverse. The only time I don't is when the fish hits Whereas I am reeling. And if he hits robust sufficient to REVERSE my reeling motion and move the bail back to the stop, it really is Extremely doubtful that giving 3" of line and delaying the hook set for a half second will be the root result in of a miss.
IMHO, there are two kinds of persons who complain about the lack of instant anti-reverse:
1. The purist. Is it Achievable that a clack-back on a hook-set could cause you to lose the fish? Yes. And that answer is sufficient to clinch it for them. They do not want to hear that the odds are 500 to a single. They do not want to hear how handy and effortless the QF is. How you can practically get rid of the concern with expertise. It is not as great as it could be, and that's the end of the story for them. And that's OK. I'll concede that argument to them. Fishing is a thoughts game. Most of these guys never ever implemented a QF reel, so they do not miss it when they do not have it anyway!
two. The false-association. Consumers discover the clack-back. It is a strange noise. It's a little distracting. And every single time they miss a fish, they recognize they missed it just a SECOND following they hear the clack-back, so it's human nature (an instinctive survival trait) to associate the one with the other. When they CATCH the fish, they're too busy to remember the clack-back noise. Given that fishing is especially significantly a 'mind' and 'attitude' game, when they have that unfavorable association, no 1 can convince them it is not so, with all the physics and math in the planet.
Bottom Line: If you Consider that instant anti-reverse is going to lose less fish for you, then I Very advise you invest in a reel that has it. You Need a positive attitude to be a prosperous fisherman (at least all the successful fishermen I know have one).
But if you are interested in an excellent reel that will Aid you to cast much better quicker, that allows 1 handed casting very same as a bait caster, that you can train yourself to fish Without having clack-back anyway, then this is the reel for you!

I adore the Sprirex reel so significantly I asked for a further 1 for Christmas. If you are sitting in a boat casting and casting, the Rapid-Fire function for 1 handed casting is efficient and hassle-free. My only disappointment is that the last time I purchased a single it came with an added spool and this a single did not. The added spool is handy if you get the line so screwed up that it is less complicated just to take one particular spool off and reload with the other.
That mentioned, yet, this reel is far much less prone to get the line messed up than any other I have utilized. It's a smooth machine.
The rear drag version is much easier/better than the front drag version, so be cautious when purchasing to guarantee you get the rear drag one.
